We Build Shooting Gear Because We Got Tired of Gear That Didn't Work Right

CROSSTAC started in 2007 with a pretty simple idea:

If a piece of shooting gear is frustrating to use, there is probably a better way to make it.

A lot of our products started exactly that way. Something moved when it shouldn't. Something was too complicated, or obviously designed by someone who hadn't spent enough time actually using it.

That has been the basic CROSSTAC product-development process ever since. We shoot. When we find something that annoys us, which is surprisingly often, we figure out why it doesn't work and then we build a better solution.

CROSSTAC products are designed and manufactured at our facility in Loveland, Colorado.

Keeping manufacturing close matters to us because we can actually control what we're making. If something needs to change, we don't have to wait for a shipping container to arrive from the other side of the world. We walk over and fix it.

That also means the people making CROSSTAC gear understand what the product is supposed to do—not just what the drawing says it should look like.

Made in USA isn't a marketing slogan for us. It's how we operate.

We Don't Design From Our Conference Room (we don't even have a conference room. Maybe someday...)

Our designs come from the range, competition, hunting, military and law-enforcement use, and a lot of time behind pistols, shotguns, and rifles. Many of our best-known products started because the equipment available wasn't doing the job the way we thought it should.

The Precision Long Range Shooting Mat came from being tired of shooting off mats that curled, moved, collected dirt, or simply weren't designed around how a shooter actually uses one. Our shooting bags came from the same place. So did our slings, maintenance products, cases, and much of the rest of the line.

We don't start by asking: “What feature can we add to boost sales?” We start by asking: “What problem are we trying to solve?” Sometimes that means a product ends up simpler than what everyone else is selling.

Good. We don't add features just to make the bullet list longer.

We Make Gear to Be Used

CROSSTAC products aren't designed to look impressive sitting on a shelf. They're made to get dirty. They're made to be dragged to the range, thrown in a truck, packed into a match, carried through the field, and used over and over again.

That doesn't mean you can't damage one. You absolutely can. We've seen shooting bags subjected to things no reasonable person should ever do to a shooting bag.

But our goal is to make gear that does its job, lasts, and stays out of your way while you're using it. Because when you're trying to make a shot, the last thing you should be thinking about is your gear.

Since 2007, CROSSTAC has grown from a handful of ideas into a full line of American-made shooting gear used by recreational shooters, hunters, competitors, law enforcement, and military customers.

In 2013, a major flood nearly destroyed our shop. We cleaned up and kept going. The company is now bigger than it was when we started. BUT the reason we make things and our design philosophy hasn't changed.
