Built to move. Built to shoot from.

The CROSSTAC RECON Shooting Mat was designed for shooters who want a real padded shooting surface without carrying a big, heavy mat everywhere they go.

At approximately 1.5 lbs. in the Regular length, the RECON uses two layers of tough 500D CORDURA® and 1/8" Volara closed-cell foam to give you protection and insulation from rocks, concrete and rough ground without unnecessary weight or bulk. Fold it in half, fold it again, roll it up, and the 60" long Regular packs down to approximately 14" × 6", while the 72" Long version packs to approximately 18" × 6".

We still wanted a bipod rail—but the padded rail from our Precision Mat didn't make sense on something designed to pack this small. So we built a low-profile webbing rail into the RECON instead. Hook your bipod legs behind it and load forward for a stable, repeatable shooting position.  And we put the rail on both sides.

Why? Because both sides of the mat are usable, so why waste one? Multicam models use Multicam on one side and Coyote Brown on the other. Flip the mat over and you don't give up the bipod rail or functionality.

The fold-fold-roll design also keeps the dirty ground-contact surfaces captured inside instead of rolling them against the surface you'll lie on next time. Heavy-duty mil-spec elastic loops keep the RECON tightly rolled when you're moving.

Corner grommets and MOLLE webbing add field versatility. Stake it down, attach it to your gear, or use some 550 cord to rig a hasty shelter. The closed-cell foam can even provide additional insulation when conditions turn ugly.

This isn't our thickest or widest shooting mat. That's the point. The RECON is for the shooter who wants to stay mobile without giving up a stable, purpose-built shooting surface.

Why Choose the RECON?

Built to move. At approximately 1.5 lbs. in the Regular length and about 14" × 6" rolled, the RECON gives you a real padded shooting surface without carrying the bulk of the Precision Mat.

1/8" foam is intentional. American-made Volara closed-cell foam provides protection and insulation from the ground without adding unnecessary weight or packed bulk.

Load your bipod from either side. Webbing bipod rails are built into both sides of the mat. Hook the bipod legs behind the rail and load forward for a stable, repeatable shooting position.

Both sides are functional. Multicam models use Multicam on one side and Coyote Brown on the other, and the bipod rail works whichever side is up. Grey models are Grey on both sides.

Keep the shooting surface cleaner. Fold it in half, fold it again, then roll. The dirty ground-contact surfaces are captured inside instead of being rolled against the surface you'll lie on next time.

More than a shooting mat. Corner grommets let you stake it down or rig it with 550 cord as a hasty shelter, while the closed-cell foam can provide additional insulation in the field.

Built light, not fragile. Two layers of 500D CORDURA® save weight while retaining the durability needed for field, range and competition use.

Precision or RECON — Which Mat Is Right for Me?

Choose the RECON if: You're carrying your equipment, moving between shooting positions, competing in shoot-and-move stages, or simply want the smallest and lightest serious shooting mat we make.

Choose the Precision Mat if: Maximum prone comfort and shooting stability matter more than weight and packed size. Its 36" width, 3/8" foam and larger padded bipod rail make it our best dedicated shooting platform.

Is the RECON too thin? Not for what it was designed to do. The 1/8" closed-cell foam takes the edge off rocks, concrete and rough ground while keeping weight and packed size down. If maximum cushioning is your priority, choose the Precision.

Why does RECON use 500D instead of the Precision Mat's 1000D? Weight. Two layers of 500D CORDURA® give the RECON excellent durability without defeating the reason we designed a lightweight mat in the first place.

Why a webbing bipod rail instead of the Precision Mat's foam rail? The foam rail works extremely well on the Precision Mat, but it adds bulk. RECON's webbing rail captures the bipod legs and provides a loading point while allowing the mat to pack much smaller.

Why are the two sides different colors? Because both sides are usable—so why waste one? Multicam models give you Multicam on one side and Coyote Brown on the other. We even put a bipod rail on both sides so you don't give up function when you flip it over.

Is it waterproof? We call it water-resistant, not waterproof. The 500D CORDURA® has a urethane-coated interior and DWR-treated exterior, while the closed-cell foam itself does not absorb water.
